"The Virtual Critical Care Project has proven to be invaluable. Through it, we have immediate access to specialized care which can help us to stabilize a patient pending a transfer. In our opinion, it can help save a patient’s life. "

Tracy French, RN Manager Ambulatory Care, ICU, MDRD and Surgical Services Kirkland and District Hospital

Emergency Services

OTN's Emergency Services Program uses telemedicine in situations requiring the management of a life threatening condition. Without telemedicine, these situations could result in permanent disability or even death. Tele-emergency applications at OTN include Telestroke, virtual critical care, trauma, burn/plastics, and crisis tele-psychiatry.

Benefits include:

  • Elimination of geographic barriers to specialized emergency services and service providers
  • reduction of unnecessary transfers and ensure necessary transfers occur in a timely fashion
  • improved diagnostic response times
  • improved decision‐making
  • improved patient outcomes
