eVisit Primary Care

Connecting patients with their family care providers through secure messaging, audio, and video for simple health requests

About the pilot

The goal of this pilot is to provide same or next day care with the patient’s primary care provide through secure messaging, audio, and video.

The initiative started in September 2017 and involved working with regional partners in five Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs): Central West LHIN, Waterloo Wellington LHIN, Central East LHIN, Mississauga Halton LHIN, and Toronto Central LHIN.

How eVisit Primary Care works

Primary care providers can in the pilot invite their patients to participate and register to use the service. To participate, patients must have access to a computer or smartphone with an internet connection. Patients can then connect to their own provider using a secure web-based platform that offers secure messaging, video, or audio for their health concern.

eVisit Primary Care is appropriate for non-emergency health questions or issues such as:

  • cold, cough, flu
  • women’s health questions
  • pain
  • rash
  • allergies
  • chronic disease management
  • follow-up visits
  • medication questions

To date, more than 33,000 patients and 275 participating providers have successfully completed more than 18,000 eVisits, providing more timely and convenient access for Ontarians to primary care.
